Did Elon really donate $100M to OpenAI?💰

A lot of you may already know that our favorite billionaire, Elon was also one of the founding fathers of OpenAI. That’s a fact that’s confirmed.

However, one fact which is definitely blurry is the amount of cash Elon had donated to the AI company.

  • From the time ChatGPT was launched and OpenAI’s popularity shot up like a rocket, Elon has said multiple times that he had donated a $100 mil to the company its early days.

  • The TechCrunch sherlocks had something else to say though. According to their detective work on tax filings, Musk may have sprinkled around $57 million into OpenAI's coffers, not the claimed $100 million.

But it seems like Elon might've realized his numbers game was a little off. When put on the spot in a recent CNBC interview, he toned it down to "some number on the order of $50 million.

Perhaps he got his calculator out this time, or maybe he's just a big fan of rounding up - like really, really UP.

Elon had departed OpenAI in 2018 when he wanted to keep the non-profit cape on for OpenAI but the others were eyeing for the for-profit rights. He has since been highly critical of the company’s direction and the lack of their ‘open’-ness given their name, ‘Open’-AI.

More ads on Netflix 📺🎬

Netflix, that cheeky little couch-occupying monster that has replaced all your hobbies with "just one more episode" recently unveiled some digits on their ad-supported tier.

Remember when Netflix was all, "We will NEVER put ads on our platform!"?

  • This was only possible for Netflix when it was the only player in town. They could dictate whatever they wanted back then.

  • However, as more and more streaming platforms popped up like Disney+, Hulu and HBO Max, there was increasing competition and pressure on Netflix.

  • Well, they changed their tune, partnered up with Microsoft, and introduced the ad tier that starts at $6.99 per month in the US, a 30% discount from the regular plan.

Now, let's talk some digits on this. It's cheaper (who doesn't love a discount, amirite?), and guess what? It's gaining popularity like cat videos on the internet.

  • We're talking 5 million monthly active users!

  • 25% of all new Netflix subscribers are signing up for this ad-supported tier wherever it's available.

The Netflix stock did a happy dance after releasing these numbers, jumping more than 9% yesterday.

Some analysts also say that their ad-supported tier is expected to generate more average revenue per member than its standard subscription plan.
