GPT Plays Minecraft 🤖

Some peeps from Nvidia and some brainy pals recently decided to let the beast, GPT4, loose in the voxel realm of Minecraft. Because why not?

Their new bot is named Voyager and it’s like a digital Indiana Jones in the world of Minecraft. The bot is built on 3 basic pillars.

1/ Prompting Mechanism

This is the system used by the bot to learn from the game environment. Think of it as a self-correcting and environment-learning machine.

It’s like a learning teenager, but instead of sulking and slamming doors, it’s learning from it’s mistakes and getting better every day.

2/ Skill Library

This is Voyager's very own Swiss Army knife. It’s where the bot stores all the moves it has learned and is ready to whip them out whenever needed.

3/ Automatic Curriculum

Think of this as Voyager’s own Google Maps (or Apple Maps, if you’re into that). The curriculum nudges it to discover new things and ensures that the AI explorer sees as much as possible.

The Voyager is more than 15X faster at advancing through the Minecraft Tech Tree (Minecraft’s corporate ladder) than it’s predecessors.

Does it stop at Minecraft? Absolutely not!

Voyager's fancy footwork showcases the immense potential of language models beyond our friendly chatbot interactions.

• OpenAI has already dipped its toes into this space, integrating plugins to interact with services like Instacart and Wolfram.

• Microsoft is not far behind either, working on launching Windows 11 Copilot to automate certain tasks.

We have one beef with this whole thing though.

They should have named the bot “Mine-GPT” and not Voyager!

Ads on Prime Video As Well? 📺

Hey screen addicts! Have you heard? Amazon is considering slapping some ads onto your favorite Prime Video shows.

Why? Because dollars, my friend, are a company's best friend!

In an attempt to secure a bigger slice of the ad revenue pie, Amazon is reportedly looking at creating an ad-supported tier for its Prime Video service.

• Amazon has been putting the metal to the Ads pedal as they earned a whopping $9.5 billion in ad revenue in Q1 - 2023.

• Their ad business has continued to grow, making it the 3rd biggest digital ad player in the U.S, after Google and Meta.

The move makes sense as Netflix and Disney have already added ad tiers to their services, so Amazon might just join the party.

The company is also in chats with Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global to add their ad-based tiers to Prime Video Channels.

• Paramount (NASDAQ:PARA) and Warner Bros (NASDAQ:WBD) stock jumped 8.3% and 8.5% respectively upon hearing this news.

• Interestingly, Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) stock dipped by 4%.

That said, the ecommerce behemoth is still exploring different strategies to infuse ads into Prime Video.

One idea floating around is to offer current Prime subscribers more ads but with an option to pay extra for an ad-free version.

It's like offering a VIP pass at a music festival—pay more, get more!

However, these plans are as firm as jello right now, and Amazon might just decide to scrap the whole ad-tier idea.
