The Streaming King Is Back 📺

Earnings Szn has started and there’s definitely one company that had a sweet quarter - Netflix.

Let’s rewind the clock 1 year back for a moment. The team at Netflix announced their quarterly results which didn't meet the investor expectations and the wolves pounced on the stock to crash it by 8%.

The Good, The Better and The Bad

Not this time though. Netflix’s stock has popped over 16% after reporting a massive addition of 8.76 million new subscribers globally, crushing Wall Street estimates of 5.49 million.

Seems like people really are buying their own Netflix subscriptions after the password-crackdown.

The good news doesn’t stop here though. Netflix also announced their cheaper ad-supported tier earlier this which has grown by almost 70%.

The company really came out all guns blazing and showed everyone who’s still the kingpin of the streaming cartel.

However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows, at least for consumers. The basic and premium subscriptions are getting a price bump of 20% and 15% respectively, so be ready to shill out more dollars to re-watch Suits for the 117th time (or is it only us who do that?)

Read The Information first…or them later

The Information’s journalists get the news that other newsrooms envy. That’s why their reporting on tech, media and finance has been followed by the New York Times, Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal and dozens of other outlets more than 400 times in the last year.

☄️ Asteroids ☄️

Elon Musk is introducing two new premium tiers for X. A cheaper one with ads and a pricier ad-free option. Meanwhile, they're testing a $1/year plan in NZ and the Philippines to combat bots. 🐦💰

Product Hunt laid off around 60% of its team recently, but CEO Rajiv Ayyangar emphasises it's for strategic reasons, not financial. They're shifting gears to better spotlight tech products and innovations. Exciting pivots ahead! 🛠️

Discord is enhancing user moderation with a transparent warning system and a teen safety feature. Instead of immediate bans, it's teaching users better online behaviour. Plus, explicit content gets blurred for safety! 🛡️🤝
