Tesla Earnings - Bumpy Ride or Joy Ride? 🚗

Yesterday was Tesla’s earnings call and it seems like the outcome was a bag of mixed-emotions.

We’ll explain what we mean but have a look at the results first:

• Automotive Revenue: $21.3 Billion (+46%)

• Energy and Storage Revenue: $1.5 Billion (+74%)

• Services Revenue: $2.2 Billion (+47%)

Things seem to be looking pretty good up until now. We see more of green than red. Now, have a look at what the stock did after seeing these numbers.

Wait, what! Why did the stock drop 4.19% after such elevated numbers and the company beating Wall Street expectations?

Well, if you’ve bought a Tesla anytime this year, you might have got a sweet deal on it due to the company slashing their car prices aggressively in order to boost demand.

And what happens when you give discounts?
Your operating margin decreases!

Tesla’s margin, which boasted themselves as being one of the highest in the industry have been declining dropping to 9.6% this quarter.
Hence, the no champagne popping and the stock dropping.

However, not all is gloom and doom.

1/ Tesla’s energy biz is revving up with a 47% rise to $2.15 billion and is expected to grow significantly with multiple EV manufacturers signing up to use their supercharging network.

2/ Elon also revealed that they're also brewing their AI magic potion, Dojo which is an AI supercomputer trained on Tesla’s data to come another inch closer to an actual Full-Self Driving (FSD) mode.

Elon says that they’re making significant progress on the FSD front but then again, he promised a Tesla would be able to complete a cross-country trip with no driver intervention in 2017.

So we’re going to take that with a grain of salt.

Google is exploring AI tools to help journalists, called Genesis. It could help with headlines and writing styles, but the verdict's out on its effectiveness. 😯📰

Apple is testing a ChatGPT-like AI chatbot. They're cooking up something codenamed "Ajax" internally, but we'll have to wait until next year for the big reveal. 📆🔮
