Teslaโs Earnings Rollercoaster ๐๐ข
So, Tesla pulled off a David Copperfield, posting all-time high quarterly revenue. Imagine, Tesla's core automotive business grew by a staggering 46% year-over-year to $21.27 billion. But then, they zapped us with a magic trick of their own, revealing a drop in operating margin to 9.6%. Plot twist, amirite?
Then came the earnings call, and like a popcorn machine that's run out of oil, the stock price started dipping. Turns out, dear CEO, Elon Musk, and his executive buddies played coy, skirting around exact specifications and delivery dates for the Cybertruck and robotaxi. They also pulled a classic 'we're working on it' move, saying vehicle production would slow down in Q3 because, apparently, factories need summer vacays too.

Meanwhile, Tesla's got some serious number crunching to boast about, with 466,140 total vehicle deliveries in Q2 and production of 479,700 electric vehicles. But don't break out the champagne just yet. Thanks to a buffet of incentives and discounts, these numbers come with a side order of shrinking operating margins, a five-quarter low of 9.6%.
On the upside, Tesla's power play in the energy generation and storage game is looking sunny-side-up, with revenue rising 74% year-over-year to $1.51 billion. And, as more Teslas roam the streets, "services and other" revenue is also revving up with a 47% rise to $2.15 billion.
Now, onto Tesla's R&D, which is skyrocketing faster than one of Musk's SpaceX rockets, up to $943 million from $771 million. Why the hike, you ask? They're busy brewing the AI magic potion with their Dojo "training computers." Expect to see a cool $1 billion spent on Dojo this year. Because what's a few billion between friends, right?
In true Musk style, there was talk about merging Neuralink brain implants with Tesla-made robotic limbs, aiming to turn sci-fi dreams into reality for amputees. A six-million-dollar man for just sixteen thousand? Only in Musk's world.
So there you have it, folks. Tesla's rollercoaster earnings call. Highs, lows, and everything in between. Buckle up, it's sure to be an interesting ride!
